Storehouses. Small industries, trade. Falling apart. Trying to survive, nevertheless.
Irregular. Planed and executed on a small scale. Maybe by those implied in their use. Small circles. Small, modest, contained dimensions. Without overview. Without overall planning, maybe. Facing, now, dark, regular, well defined surfaces and volúmenes.
And something in between. In between of clear organization 'from the outside' and rather spontaneous growing, let by puntual necessities or wishes.
Old, sometimes exhausted stories and histories facing open questions marks. Clear but still empty signs.
'Old nature' in between.
Diversity of materials in microscales, both temporal and spatial. Small gestures and their traces. Decisions, sometimes made to endure, sometimes without any durativo al intention.
Life flowing in between. Always current life.
Two worlds. A horizontal one, not pointing but providing for a now past present, for back them current needs and deeds that requiring support, an enveloping space and a facade that provides a minimal, modest, reserved, contained and maybe cautious account of the kind of activities to be developed in the inside, to continue being developed, maybe with some variations, under the new conditions, but keeping a strong continuity with the course that let to generate of these conditions. Facades with a little space—both material and conceptual—for ornamentation, for minimal interruption of the declaration of a typology, of the function assigned to the constructed artifact.
In the back, as an alien, artifacts in much bigger scale that refer, firstly, at least, to themselves. Monuments for themselves. Very strong, vertical distant, gestures. Fascinating, but not so much confronted with this other layer, not as their background. They need to occupy the whole focus in order to be the light without shadows that they promise to be, the fascinating future, the present-as-future, the present-as-promise to which they, presumably, they have been commissioned, designed and built.
