Frankenstein aka

Frank Vermicelli

You are of confused origin. Made from patches of disharmonic and odd orders. You are made of the excess, lack and ambivalency.

You are born from a gossip and delusion: That one evening Mary Godwin, Percy Shelley and Lord Byron were gossiping during the summer evening, near Lake Geneva. “They talked of the experiments of Dr Darwin [Erasmus Darwin, the grandfather of Charles] not of what the Doctor really did, or said that he did, but, as more to my purpose, of what was then spoken of as having been done by him,) who preserved a piece of vermicelli in a glass case, till by some extraordinary means it began to move with voluntary motion.” (Wollstonecraft Shelley, 2008. 525)

The following night, Mary conceived an idea of you in a dream.

Were you just a nerve plexus momentarily animated by the stroke of electricity…? Like a kick of dead frog’s leg.

Now, fully grown, you ask: “What did this mean? Who was I? What was I? Whence did I come? What was my destination? These questions continually recurred, but I was unable to solve them. […] If you did not want me, why did you keep me alive, year after year, in that glacial limbo, attaching to me dozens of poor devils who sacrificed their nights and their ardor to me? If I have been badly conceived, why not conceive me again? Why not take trouble to reshape me? …” (Shelley 116, 130)

Have a look at your story again:

1. Are you able to detect the little things behind or aside of main plot, a fear, a gossip, something a bit weird?

2. Isolate or pick oddities, withdrawals, retractions, uncertainties, troubles and worries in the appearances of the story.

3. Now, grow them again and go wild. Speculate like you were running a wild Ponzi scheme. Fabulate as your life would depend on it.

4. Later, when ready, are you able to answer your monster, why so?
